Milagros Chapilliquén

Milagros Chapilliquén is an artist from Paita, Piura, who graduated from the «Ignacio Merino» public art school in Piura in 2015. She grew up among a family of artisanal fishermen, and the sea at Paita — its boats, its skiffs, its fishing work — is the centre of her painting: seascapes and scenes of local life in thick brushwork and intense colour, sometimes worked over with cloth and scraps of sacking.
